Hi folks. Just thought I'd send out this hello from the east coast of Canada. Our city is fairly small (about 300,000 people), but on any given night there are a LOT of fine VWs cruising the streets. Here's my present project (are projects ever finished ????), a 1981 Rabbit Pickup built in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, USA. I looked for this little gem for almost 4 years and found a fairly rust free one very close to home. Rust is a major issue here, as the winters are very messy and a LOT of salt is used on the road. In the last 6 years, I've rebuilt just about everything from engine, to transmission, to the body. This is the present "version" as I wait for someone to design a bolt-in air ride kit. I hope you like it.

It WAS a 1.6 TD. The present engine is a severely massaged 1.9 AAZ turbodiesel. she makes 147 horsepower and 255 ft lbs of torque. Very "interesting" in a truck weighing just over 800 kg.

nice. I had a mk3 with an aaz that made 120hp (at the wheels) and 240ftlbs - with a mercedes spec T3.
            What turbo are you using?
What about your gearbox/clutch setup? 020 still?

I'm presently using a Garrett T3 myself. The injection pump is the key, and we have a true artist in the pump field here called Performance Diesel Injection. The clutch is an ACT Street Fighter unit and, at present, I have the 020 that came with the engine. I am collecting parts to put an 02A in it this summer. The 020 just will not handle the torque. I drive it fairly easy, and I'm on my 4th in 3 years.
In a truck this light, it's a true blast to drive. It sure does surprise the ricers in their Honduhs.

Yeah - I had no end of problems with my mk3 until I did an 02a swap. I have the same problems with my cabriolet now - even more torque than with the t3 at low rpm - like you we just baby it until about 3000rpm.

I've often considered sending a pump to Giles but the freight over and back is a killer. I ended up building my pumps myself, which of course isnt as good but I can at least do it on the cheap

Love your paint by the way, very stylish for the caddy.
