  • Starting issue help mk1 Cab

Hi all, my cab used to have a starting issue when hot and let it cool for an hour and then all good, car has been garaged for a while and the last time i tried it wouldn't start.

So this weekend i took the starter out, stripped it, rebuilt it and bench tested all good.

I the checked the relay marked 92 which is under the knee bar, when turning the key to start it clicks, i took the cover off and both parts of the relay contacts flick over so it looks ok, haven't put a multimeter on it though.

So I'm at a loss, car wont start, i know starter is good, relay seems ok.

Any pointers would be gratefully appreciated.

Is your car auto or manual?

The auto suffered from heat soak on the solenoid, and would only start when it cooled.

You could try shorting the starter with a long screw driver across the positive and earth points (this can be dangerous!!)

Possibly the ground cables are suffering from old age. Have you tried grounding the starter with jumper cables?

As your car is a '93 and from the last week ever of production, it's twenty years old this 19th to 23rd of April !
