I bought some JOM coilovers from eBay (BKS Tuning's store) for $350 including shipping from Germany, for my MK4 Golf. Some people say you get what you pay for, but I've honestly not got anything bad to say about them for that price.

Any reason why you want coilovers??
A good set of shocks and springs, will be better than a cheap set of coilovers.

Have a look at awesomegti, demon tweeks etc.
They have a few options for coilovers and shocks in your price range.

I got a set of JOM's from veedubmachine in the uk. They cost $415 landed but you can bundle more parts and save on shipping.

          Cheers

x3 for veedubmachine, I bought my mk1 JOMs for about $400, they seem to fit the bill nicely so I have a set in my mk3 now as well, and they are pretty compliant over bumps and solid in corners.
Also, my workmate bought JOMs for his mk1, got a lift home with him and they seem good if not a bit stiffer than the mk3, which suits me nicely!
