  • Help on some dimensions!

Hey guys I've been calling up a few places and no one could give me an answer! I've got a 5 speed box out of a mk2 which I was given to me from a mate and i recently brought a 1.8l adz off the wreckers which was missing a few bits and pieces. I'm just trying to get it together so i can drop it into my mk1 but I've hit a brick wall! I'm in need of bolts that connect the gearbox and the engine and also the starter motor!
If anyone has any dimensions of these specific bolts can you please let me know. Thanks
    Steve

    Steve,

do you still have your old engine/gearbox? You can use those bolts....

You can replace the stud on the 4 speed box with a bolt on the 5 speed, I think its M12x1.5 and about 70mm long.

I think the 2 bolts for the block below the head are also M12x1.5 and around 70mm long should work.

The starter motor bolts are very long and I think are m10x1.5 or m10x1.25 - check the nut on the from engine mount bracket for the pitch. If you use your old starter motor that should work. You can use a diesel starter motor, the only thing its missing is a terminal for the ignition circuit that shorts out the resistor for the coil so it gets 12V when you are cranking over the engine.

I've got the old engine and gearbox, I was having a look for the bolts on my old diesel engine/box nothing found humph!
I might have to see a volswagen spare parts rep to print me out the bolt sizing!

        Help on some dimensions!

Order them from VW. They are usually pretty reasonable for small stuff like that.

Bolts and nuts are stamped (or formed) with the material rating on them. All you would need to do is get matching ones.

Thanks for that! It will be best if I go into a volkswaogn dealer and see the parts reps.

                Steve,

                Top of gearbox - 2 of 12 x 1.75 x 50mm bolt
                Bottom of box, remove stud and replace with - 1 of 12 x 1.75 x 50mm bolt
                Starter motor - 2 of 10 x 1.5 x 135mm bolt

Remember to check the diameter of your gearbox input shaft to your clutch driven plate.
