  • brake upgrade for the race car

well I finally bit the bullet and (with santa's help) i got serious with the golf's brakes.

    Went from this

    to this awesome goodness

6 pot billet aluminium race brakes

so much lighter than the previous brakes and should stop ALOT quicker now. The previous units were great and i couldn't fault them for sport and sprint driving but i want to step it up further for sustained track attacks.

    more to come

    Wonderful photos - looks awesome!

So, did the standard wheels fit over those bad boy calipers?

well the 15" fit...............just, has about 3mm clearance but it does fit. I am changing the wheels later on for a different set of rims as I have 12 of these rims some will have to go.

          Was it this?

And were the old caliper mounts bolt on as well or did you have to modify/replace the hubs?

Looks good man, I was tempted to grab some of those from eBay as well.

Any reason your rotors are now facing a different direction to what the previous ones were? I just noticed that the slots were facing the opposite way to the ones you had on originally.

yeah that is close to what these are and they a great made bit of gear hey and I purchased dealer direct after a lengthy discussion. The discs are 286mm as i still want to retain the mk1's quick acceleration and revvy nature so the smaller the rim the better hence my keeping a 15" setup. Disc direction is purely manufacturer instructions. Black diamond recommend 1 direction, K sport (AP) recommend this direction. Just need to change around the bleeders and it is ready for the road.

In the seventh photo, is that a crack in the wheel or just a misadventure with the pencil in MS Paint?

Wow - that's observant - looks like a crack in two spokes

It's something on the lens. Otherwise it's across the spokes and inside them. Look closely.
