Need answers!

Hey guys I've just got a mk3 1.8 8v engine which I want to put into my mk1 GLD, I've also got a 5 speed box out of a mk2 1.8l 8v I just want to know if the 5speed box is capible to be used on the mk3 engine?
Will the ratios still be the same?

MK1, 1976 golfLS, 4 door (SOLD! Will be missed)
MK1, 1980 golfGLD, 4 door (1.8l, 8v, 5 speed)

Will work fine.

Need to know the gearbox code to work out the ratios.

Thanks just wasn't to sure because its a new motor with an old gearbox.
