  • MY new 76 MK1 Golf

    Hey everyone my names matt

    I have been wondering around this site for a little while now and i have finally got me the car i have wanted.
    I have owned Other VWs and at the moment i have a 1962 beetle and my other project is a 1965 split screen
    kombi deluxe.

    But i finally have me a golf and a nice early one at that. Its a 5/1976
    I have been on a very big holiday and car picking up trip in the last few days.
    Me and a mate took a nice long road trip from canberra down to tassie and back. It was a very long 4 days but we met some very nice people and seen some amazing country side. Plus it did come with a heap of spare parts =)

    I dont have many pictures at the moment but i have this one

    It does need quite a bit of work but im going to get this thing going as soon as i can and if anyone can HELP I NEED a brake fluid reservoir Please

    Commets welcome

    Cheers Matt

    Sweet...yet another ACT Mk1 It looks super tidy.
    I thought this car was purchased by a young bloke up in QLD...evidently not.
    Call the guys at CVWC or A&R Auto, if they can't help you, they'll know who can. If you get stuck for a reservoir, my car is off the road at the moment, so you can borrow that for a few months. I'm not even sure if I'll need it back

      Hi Matt - congrats on your purchase. I so badly wanted this golf. I saw it on your trailer parked in Howard Rd for a few hours on Monday and the Canberra plates on your car. I got all dejected because I thought I would never see it again! Glad you signed up here and enjoy the golf!

                  Thanks guys Im very happy with the car.

                  Yeah the paint isnt the best in places it looks really good in photos but there is a few bit im going to re do. The last owner must of be a little paint happy on some bits ha ha

                  So i have been working on the car for the last couple of days.
                  I got a brake res from the guys at A & R autos and the guys there were amazing and a great help.

                  So i got the brakes bleed and and they are really nice now but i forgot to get a brake pressure sender to add to the brake master so now at the moment im looking to get one of them. I also worked out the engine and got it running which was amazing. The best sound i could of hoped for this weekend haha

                  Then other then the engine work of making sure pipes were on or in the right stop i was cleaning out the inside of the car which will need a really big clean. I found a few mouse poohs here and there some in the engine bay too but nothing crazy. which is good.

                  I pulled some really bad speakers that someone mounted in the back, it wasnt to bad but not very nice. I will work something nicer out in the back and make it look a little more factory. I still have a heap of cleaning to do but that can wait until i get it back on the road.

                  I did change the ugly front bumper too which i think looks so much better now plus i did take some very ugly ugly boy racer pedals and gear knob off

                  I do need a little help with some engine wiring shots if someone could chuck up.

                  I have a heap of wires on the battery side of the engine bay.
                  *wires to the windscreen washer
                  * the fan
                  and just a couple of shots of around that area if anyone can help.
                  Please =)

                  I would use a wiring diagram but at the moment im still looking for one.

                  i do got some pictures for you guys too

                      Just looking to make it a nice clean daily with a little extra

                      The engine bay i will go a little crazy and get rid of as much as i can and make it as simple as possible tucking wires but nothing will be chopped out or anything like that but just nice and clean. Then i will be upgrading the carbs to a twin down draft manifold with twin 36mm webers. Also im looking into a 5 speed box to make it a really nice daily.

                      The rest of the car im going to go as original as i can no crazy seats or anything inside and the out side just polishing it up and making it look the way its meant to. but i will be changing the rims and lowering it a little bit.

                      Cheers for looking everyone

                      Thanks Matt
