Mk2 GTI brakes, fit on a mk1 GLS???

Hey all, been ages since I've done anything to my mk1, but in the classifieds section there's a set of mk2 GTI brakes with callipers and carriers, anyone know if they would work on a mk1 and if not what would i need to do to make 'em work?? Whether its worth the upgrade and how much better the braking would be.
