New to Mk1's! Need Weber advice!

Hi! My name is Steve and i've been lurking around in the Mk3 area for the past few years without posting much, but ive finally jumped ship to a great little Beige Mk1 Golf. Ive only had it for about a week now and i love it!
But its missing something.
Im coming from a fairly heavily moded Mk3 VR6, to a mk1 1.6. Enough said there i think.
So im looking at, to tire me over until more impressive goals can be made, a carbie upgrade.
Ive heard Webers recommended most and I've found one for sale which is a 28/36 DCD. Most ive seen recommended are 32/38 DGV i think, not that i have any idea what that is either!
So does anyone have any experience with the 28/36 DCD Weber on a 1.6 FN engine? I heard they came out on a 1500 Mk1 Ford Cortina, which i also have no experience on.
Any help or recommendations greatly appreciated!

I cant say i know much about them. But have heard from many people they are a super nice set up.

I've had a 32/36 DGV on my old 1.6, and it was good. Helped the engine to rev nice and clean to 7K. I believe they came standard on 1.6-2.0 cars, such as escorts etc.

There are also a couple different types of chokes, electric, water temp and manual (or no choke at all if you're brave). Manual would be the best option imo.

But realistically, either carb would be better than the current solex choker that's on there.

I know a DGV series will fit onto a TS passat manifold as well.

blinkx, yeah that was actually the one im thinkin of getting! Just trying to get as much info on it as possible first, if its worth it.
Jarred, that 32/36 DGV was the one ive heard recommended most, do you have any idea how different the 28/36 DCD is? i have very litle knowledge about what the numbers mean, i imagine they are the sizes of the thoats or something? and the DGV and DCD i have no idea what they mean haha
And yeah id be going with a manual choke i reckon, thats what the guy selling it has

never played with a DCD before, so couldn't reall comment. But really, how hard could it be! haha

obviously the 32/36 is bigger, so might be beneficial if you wanted to nudge up the power a bit.

Any one know what DCD actually means? or DGV for that matter? having trouble finding anything about what the letters mean.

so with the 28/36, whats that the size of, is it the size of each throat area? like primary is 28 secondary is 36? so on the 34 Pict-5 solex thing thats on there now, is the 34 the same sort of measurement?
just trying to get my head around it
is a 28/36 gonna be worth it or is a 32/36 going to be a whole lot better?

yea, they're the throat sizes.

I think either would work.

When I get stuck, I go and have a look at one of Pete Jones threads, they're always filled with great stuff.
