Hope I don't sound too critical here, however whoever put that website/page together has no idea about publishing. Dreadful font (should always use Times New Roman. Arial or Verdana), no help for the "reading eye" as the page layout is all over the place and image files that are just too big for poor country dwellers like me who only have dialup. After 20mins I had only 5 images downloaded! But great information! I also like Robin's contribution of the trains. Just one of those Golfs would do me! (As long as it was a diesel!)

Lots of manual labour there compared to the upgrade to "Halle 54" for the Golf 2. This was the old Beetle production line.

Does anyone here have photos of the Australian production line of the same time?

These are German built US spec Golf's I reckon, & those crome bumpers are the US spec shock absorbtion bumpers (a friend of mine had a US import and this also had these bumpers. They have small shock absorbers instead of the normal steel bumper brackets) and the westmoreland spec square headlight version was a US built Rabbit, like the Aust. built Golf's were LS' & the German built Golf's were GLS, GLD etc.. Not really the best looking Golf, but what ever floats ya boat I suppose.
