  • Need advice on what to buy

As you know, im looking at buying a golf... BUT.... Its seems im caught up on which mdl to choose.... It will be a everyday car but also track (if possible)..... I can buy a MK1 gti and spend some money to make it go nice or buy a VR6 and drive in comfort.... they both have good points and bad points..... im lost

    MK1:

    *easy to mod
    *handle great
    *cheap to run
    *old
    *slowish
    *noisy/viabrate etc..
    *outdated in looks

    VR6:

*all comfort items ie:air, power windows etc..
    *look good
    *fastish
    *handle ok
    *expensive to run
    *not as easy to mod
*not as good as track car

If anyone would like to add or comment on above.. in case im wrong, please do so

    cheers
    Lee

Tassiegti has both a mk1 GTI and a VR6 and likes both for different reasons.
The mk2 might just be the answer as Aussieg60 already said.

Go Mk2 for reliability as a daily driver and still has confort items like power steer and air. Good on Track days too.

only if you get a k-jet mk2 man, i speak from bitter experience of a friend with a late digifant 8v, stupid, and i mean STUPID electrical gremlins in the leccy system. on an otherwise perfect J ( 92 ) reg car. arse.

All the VR6's I've been in have "felt" propper slow, I say get a Seat Ibiza Cupra Sport 16v.
                    *Quick
                    *Light
                    *16v revs
                    *Go kart Mk1 handling
                    *Still a VW sort of
Only problem is they're cheapish and resale isn't the best.
My mate has one for sale and has a pic of it in the thread named "crashed my mk2".
