So I have had this car stashed away for a while and finally pulled it out of storage today and took it to the workshop. Its a bit rough, but I`m gonna signwrite it and use it as a delivery / publicity vehicle. Just thought I`d share a few pics with you guys.

Plenty to do in the cabin, as can be seen, i`m thinking a Mk2 dash.
I have already put a SEAT Ibiza GTI engine, injection system and loom in the engine bay and an early 5 speed gearbox. Just need to mate up all the wires in the cabin and she should go.

Cool. Drop a VR6 into it so you can haul a couple of W12's in the back

You going to straighten it out first? What else you got stashed away in that cuppboard of yours

Edit: Just saw the donk that's been fitted. VR6 would be cool as though!

Thats great nostalgia mate!!! I had a wee Gti one of them for a while and sold it for silly money as you do. Great to see that over here!! What you need in that is a 1z TDI mate, itll run around doin deliverys all day long , dont even switch the thing off and great wee torque thing when need be!!
Man you are giving me ideas big time. What would it be like to bring one of them in here??? Im looking at setting up for myself and that might be handy and as far as the wife is concerned but do something radical with it too.

Yeah the 1Z would be nice jimmy but the TDIs are big $$s as people keep em until they die. There were only 200 TDIs sold here!!!!

I reckon a 2E GTI engine, and loom will be fine, the car will run like a Mk3, ie reliably and I`ll even get the diagnostics port. The gearbox is Scirocco GTI imported one, so should be good ratios too

You could bring a 1988 or earlier Caddy without paying duty as a personal import from the UK if you can find a good one.

This thing is a US one converted to RHD and has miles of welding wire in it!!
Thats the trouble with a car that fills up with water easily!

I`ll probably chuck some paint at it and a couple of chrome bumpers.

I didn`t bring it mate, I found it tucked away at a panelbeaters and had to haggle hard to get it. Its pretty rough, but I reckon there is probably only 5 in Oz!

They are old enough to bring without restriction. Checkout ebay.co.uk

There are none in Australia boys.
There really are 5. One In Canbera that belongs to Peter Shelley and has a 20VT engine in it, Peter Doff has one at VW Country, Tassie GTI has one, Brian Patterson has one being restored and he had another that rusted out and was repaired, thats now my one. thats it. If anyone knows of another, let us know.

                          Import some, thats it.

Its not hard, But are people prepared to pay $6 or $7k for a 20 year old pickup truck?

I paid $4k for this with no engine, box or wheels!!!

I`m gonna paint it shiny black, I may leave the roof white, or paint a flag on it?

Chrome bumpers and I reckon the Borbets look ok.

Its gonna be a relatively quick project as I dont want it sitting around at the workshop forever. Beter a roughie running around than another unfinished project.
