  • Which distributor?

    Hi,

I have a couple of quick questions in relation to distributors that i was hoping somebody may be able to enlighten me on.
I have a 91 Cabbie running a AGG 2L (looks to be later model as it has the newer style silver valve cover) on Kjet.

The distributor cap, rotor, hall sender wiring and hall sender (clip is broken), require replacing. Rather than buying individual parts and having to change the hall sender over which i have heard is not that easy, i thought i would just buy a complete distributor.

My first question is how do i know which distributor to get? The current unit has vacuum advance but i am not sure what replacement unit i should be looking at getting.

My second question is are there any online stores that would carry the ignition module to hall sender wiring or the plugs required to make up my own?

    Thanks in advance.

Ignition module is common to camira's, some saabs, audi's, renaults, etc, pretty generic item.

The end terminal blocks are possibly still available depending on what distributor you need, some are rectangular conectors, some are oval shaped.

Conductor terminals are available and I can sell you these instead of having to purchase from an overseas supplier. Correct crimping tools will produce a relaible result.

I purchase distributors, modules and the coils along with the harness' when travelling overseas and from Vortex sellers salvaging cars.

Next question is are you using the 1.8 Distributor in the 2L engine or the original dizzy ??

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

      Thanks for your reply Grant,

i Stumbled across an old post where you had mentioned about the Camira's. I did a call around all of the wreckers here in launceston and only one place had a Camira ( i will go have a look at it tomorrow). Will the hall sender on the Camira distributor also fit a golf distributor?

I have a feeling its the 1.8L distributor with the cog changed possibly. After reading the Bentley it sounds like changing the hall sender on a 8v distributor is not as difficult as i first thought (16v distributors require more work apparently), so i think i will just change out the hall sender rather than the whole distributor.

dont know the internals of the camira item, but would think it would be similar at the very least.

The dizzy will prob have an adaptor ring to fit early into late engine ( we got one from techtonics for Antons 2E ) and yes there are some sellers on ebay and online that do the hall effect parts for the dizzy, altho I am led to believe there starting to get hard to find.

LMK if you need any terminals.
