    So here's the golf!

Still needs a lot of work doing, but she's running alright for now. Mk2 16v engine, maybe from around mid 80's? Possibly English? Chassis is Aussie though. Had it dyno'd and its producing 81hp at the wheels apparently. Goes alright like, makes a hell of a racket too haha. Nice and crisp.

So yeah I mean she looks alright in the pic hey? The trim all needs freshening up and the interior isn't pretty yet. Need a headliner and some sort of lining in the boot.

Also the door cards are this sort of kinky black vinyl which I'm not overly fond of. I've got a few ideas but want to do it on a budget, Not really got the enthusiasm at the moment though? Kind of fallen out of love with it after 6 months of messing about trying to get it running.

Probably going to put a block on spending on her for a while now, been a bit over the top recently.

I bought these porsche 7 slots for her too but now that she's had a good clean I've taken a fancy to the simmons that are on her now. Been tempted to lower it but its on Koni shockies at the moment and they handle really nice so probably won't bother with coilovers. Also why sacrifice a nice ride for looks when it looks pretty tidy as it is?

It's also got a nice gti dash in it off Speci3 (I think?) off here, cheers pal, looks ace and all works fine. Also put a nice (NOS) four button Gti steering wheel in.

What you reckon on the colour? It suits the car but its the same colour as the sodding walls in work which is hugely depressing so I'm thinking about changing it. Maybe vinyl though, bit cheaper ($2.5k vs $6 or $7K for paint, wtf?!). Wouldn't be till next year anyway.

Also! I have some parts left over/ not in use:

    Mk1 speedo and tachy
Mk1 Badgeless single light grill (like off ebay)
    some bits of dash
    roof rack maybe?
    Steering wheel (bit naff)
some quiet nice aftermarket silver guages (water temp, oil pressure, volts)
maybe the 7 slots too actually.

If anyone's after anything PM me and I'll send you some pics or whatever. I'm not after much for any of that just seeing if I can help anybody out really. was all going in the bin.

should be making a bit more than 81HP shouldn't it?

Looks pretty neat anyways. pretty euro!

Yeah probably, the previous owner didn't do a very thorough job at converting the engine. Suffice to say the distributor had points in it and the K-Jet was full of glue? Also the entire wiring system was coloured orange, which wasn't very helpful. Seller forgot to mention any of that though which was pretty good of him, but that's another issue.

All that's been sorted now though thanks to 6 months of hard work and a few thousand quid! I work away so had a mechanic do the work, I'm sure that will make me very popular around here! I would love to work on it myself and develop a proper understanding of the little thing, I just don't have the time space or tools. Bought the wrong car you're probably saying and maybe you're right! I'd probably sell her if someone offered me the right money, but she's a bit of fun for now and gets the mrs to the shops whilst I'm away

I had the seats out today and bolted in the proper seat belt buckles, another of the previous owners legacies. I've also tidied up the interior a little bit and will be fitting an "unconventional headliner" tomorrow. The rest will have to wait a few weeks.

here's the shot of the engine bay someone asked for:

Quick garage shot with no flash for brilliant clarity and detail. probably wouldn't bother asking me anything about the engine... bit of a chequebook build really isn't it?

I've done a thread in the for sales with some pics from the list above. (no pics of wheels or roof rack or tachy/speedo yet.)

An 8V would pull that at the wheels. I'll lend you a book or 2 on Kjet if you want. Tuning it up is pretty easy, done plenty in the olden days back in the UK. Got some bits I can see are missing in your engine photo.

                  Looking good. Love the colour.

Personally I don't give a **** if someone doesn't do the work themself as long as they are honest about it. Not all of us have the space, time, skills, equipment. The most important thing is a Mk1 is getting some love.

Just had a weekend away driving the Great Ocean Road (should I be capitalising those words? Probably, it was epic!) in a loverly mk6 golf. It had a punchy TSI engine and the spectacular DSG gearbox which I first fell in love with during the brief 4 months that I owned one back in the motherland.

Even though it was just a pretty standard golf, the experience gave me a sort of epiffany. I don't enjoy driving this MK1 golf as much as I thought I did. An I do miss the sight, sound and feeling of my old polo.

As a result this car is now officially for sale and I m
Open to offers. I won't be buying my polo gti until probably next march. So I'm not going to jump at the first offer on this one.

I'll do a proper advert in the next few days but for now I'll tell you lovely blokes first and if you know of anyone looking then let me know and we can have a nice chat about the whole thing.

I'll miss this little beaut but I doubt I'll miss it quite so much as I miss my little polo.

So it's gone! Gone for good. But, thankfully, it went to the perfect owner. Fella who bought it is the brother of the owner of the joint out in Browns Plains - the same fella who owns that lovely white mk1 "child" amongst others. They're an awesome set of blokes and I'm made up they came along. They're planning to turbo it and race it! So they wanted to kick me for taking the cage out but they forgave me for it.

So it'll be staying in QLD and also they said they'll be taking it to many shows so it will stay in the loop and we'll all get to see it again! I said I'd go meet them and check it out from time to time so if I do, and with their permission, I'll put some pics and info up here when I get it.

Thanks to all of you for letting me share your space for a bit, you're an enlightened gang. I'll be following a few threads still for sure so good luck to all of you!

                      Adam.
