according to ETKA it says the ZB is 1.5L from 05/73 - 07/74 passat and 05/72 - 09/74 audi 80

No mention of it being diesel there though? most of the diesel engines have diesel written along side it

This is a swallowtail. The panel between the rear lights curves upwards to the edge of the lights and is an early stamping. All cars after mid 76 have a straight panel.

They are th 1975 build only, early 76 in Australia. Swallowtails are worth good $$s in the UK, but no one in Oz really notices

Bazz to put you out of your misery the ZB was also used in the Audi80 1974 mate and you are right in the passat 74.

                good engine!

the earlier 1.5's are a good engine to have - higher compression than the 1600 and with no emission control rubbish! in standard trim i think thy were faster than the 1600 - but regardless, the higher comp and smaller displacement means better fuel economy.
