  • Mk1 2door- Yellow...and proud of it.

Hi All, I'm Pete, just new to this Forum and thought I'd share the reasons I've joined
I have owned a handful of VW's, but have been out of the game for about 5 years - Tinkering with Subaru's.
    ...Oh Hai Darko
My current daily ('89 JDM import Legacy Gt - 5mt swap - Wagon) has Done a head gasket on the STi engine and the spare engine I threw in it is fugged too So I've decided to park that for a while.
Until the love returns, I need something other than my Work ute to keep me entertained, so I bought this...

It's been sitting here for quite some time and is absolutely filthy (gorgeous) It was resprayed a couple of years ago and although there is some minor clear coat peel here and there (and the odd cancerous growth),it should clean up ok.

The guys at A+R (where i found it) are just getting it sorted for rego, so hopefully I will be able to pick it up at the end of the week (fingers crossed) and get stuck in to cleaning it up properly. It fired right up with a new battery and some petrol...then leaked fuel everywhere as to be expected. (You know you own a MK1 when...etc.)

Thanks to some very helpful forum members, I have already secured a few nice little additions that will go onto the car 'all at once' in the next month or so and I'm still umming and arring over which coilover to put in - I'm leaning toward the KW v1 to start with, as I'm 40 years old and can't imagine life being much fun at $100/corner

I'm going to put a nice exhaust/extractors on (again, still need to locate some headers...anyone?)
It's just an 8v, but after owning an early '76 pre-pollution model as a youngster, I know how much I'm going to enjoy this car when it's done...they just make you smile.
I won't put any more pics up of the Golf till I've made a decent start.
Until then ('coz eryone <3's pic's) here is my Subie...

and my favourite Dub from days gone by...

    Oh...and my Dog named Elvis...

Looking forward to learning more, buying more parts and meeting some of you in the not to distant future (I will probably attend ACT GAD)
Thanks to everyone that's been so helpful thus far, nice to join a friendly/positive Forum...thankfully 99% of the Haters are on RexNet

    Catch you round all.
    Pete.

HECK YES MORE MK1's IN CANBERRA!!!!!!

I've seen that mk1 and A+R auto for ages now! Also I've got some 4-2-1 extractors that are about to get scrapped. PM me on here if you're interested mate. Also might have a few more bits if you need. I'm sending a mk1 to easy scrap in a couple of weeks.

Hey man, I know a few people who nearly bought that mk1, how much did he end up letting it go for in the end if you don't mind me asking? Cos he wanted about 4.5k about a year ago without rego.
        85' MKII GOLF GTI - GTI 85T - First cruise was 4000km in 2.5 days. It's Evolving!

Will clean up nicely no doubt, hope to see you around. When 2 Yellow mk1s meet!

              What's the interior like?

Good to see another mk1 saved.
If you are just running the standard 1600 I wouldn't bother with extractors the standard twin downpipe manifold is quite efficient and extractors will only give you droning and are common to vibrate and crack.

                  Thanks guys
Thanks to ffoff, I now have some 4-2-1 extractors ($0) Was nice to meet you They should clean up nicely, and I'll be wrapping them.
I will get an exhaust made up too, but still don't know what size to go for the 1600 - 2", 2.25" or 2.5"...advice/opinions?
George, I'll meet you at some stage, but as per PM I won't see you tomorrow...and Yes, Elvis is awesome
The Subie bonnet is just for ****s'n'giggles...I kinda bent my turbo bonnet doing an engine swap
I was only ever going to buy a cheap(ish) Golf, as I reckon half the fun is buying and fitting the parts that make it "your own"!
I've already racked up more than the purchase price in parts...that's with my rims only half paid for
                  Ronal R10 Turbo's...Incoming
I can't wait to get my hands on this car and polish and detail it...I will rip all the interior out and DynaMat it, the carpet and seat are ok, but I will run it fairly stripped out most likely (I kind of have a plan).
I need to hunt down a boss kit so I can fit a momo steering wheel (I have a couple spare) so any advice on where to find one would be great.
Thanks again for the welcome and all the help and advice.
                  Pete.
