  • Mk1 needs more low!!

Ok, so i have a set of cheapo coilovers that came with my Mk1 when i bought it but there so damn stiff i feel like parts are going to fall of the car everytime i go over tram tracks at speeds higher the 5kph.
whats the solution to getting into the slammed society without needing to wear a neck brace when i drive.
i need low and i need comfort, if there anyone who can help me??

Not really, unless you want to do a year or mores worth of hard work on the body, suspension geometry and adding all kinds of aftermarket bits, you'll have to live with one or the other.

    Let your tyres down some.

You get what you pay for with cheap coils!

Even so, a 'slammed' mk 1 (regardless of brand of coils) is never exactly going to be 'comfortable'

airride should be more comfortable! but comes at a $$

A mk1, regardless of height, is sex. IMO

Add to the fact the lower you go you then need to correct steering geometry, chassis clearance (notches for drive shafts) and the mandatory guard rolling.

Getting low properly (comfortable or not) is not cheap.

Yeah, coming to the feeling that bags are the only way to get what I want so many dollars of money though!! Anyone know a cheap place to get it done. Best quote I've had so far is 5k engineered!

Noones mentioned Strup top extenders and drop plates???

a decent set of coils will also let u get lower without as much discomfort but then again only so low before u start bashing up and down again. the difference between my JOM coilovers and KW V1s is massive!

Do some research mate plenty of guys with mass lows and no airbags. I put strut top extenders on the rocco which gave me almost an inch extra lows without adjusting the coils hence you get lower without so much bashing about. The rears i am still trying to sort out haha

5k for someone else to do it and engineer it is cheap!

Shutup jarred, its expensive and no one should do it

But yeah as Dom said, drop plates and extenders will be more than enough. I managed to get 2cm off the ground without drop plates or extenders. So it just shows you can get low with the right wheels and tyres. As for ride comfort, i can tell you that no matter what car you lower, if its properly lowered it will smash the ground always. But yeah dude, get some strut top extenders, and some decent coils (i recommend ST coils if you want bang for buck) and you're set man.

I don't have a problem with my cheap adjusties (hottunning). Yeah its stiff as **** but its not unexpected when its like 2" from the bump stops. Id rather have it stiff with less travel so im not slapping the ground with the sump over every tiny bump. Strut top extenders work well to soften the front up but keep in mind the extra travel.
It did help a fair when i cut the bump stops in half and when i raised the front, even just a touch it made a big difference, i feel as if most of the **** ride is due to the front being low.

With normal wheels and tires it will ride fairly normal, minus all the body roll. I've been in a slammed mk1 with KW coils, didn't really feel a difference, still rides like a slammed mk1.
If you are guna slam your 70s car and sook about it being rough your in the wrong game.

Bags and engineers for $5k is spot on.

bags installed and engineered for 5k is cheap!
but keep in mind, bags dont always mean lower. Depends a lot on brand, type, struts used, design
