  • What would you do with an MK1 Immaculate Original 2 door (inside and out) no motor

My advice has been put in an 1800 motor and coilovers

    any other suggestions?

just an every day a to be car to get to and from work thats reliable and nice to drive, I also have a left hand drive 5 speed rabbit cabriolet from the us thats fuel injected I can take parts from

P.s. I wanna minimise stuffind around prefer something that drops straight in without too much adapters etc, obvious choice would be the standard motor but apparantley the 1800 bolts in too

SOunds like you have everything you need.

Brakes and antiroll bars off the cabby. Also, the ride height with the cabby springs is lower.

THe motor would be low compression i believe as its from USA and the gearbox probably AUG. You could use this setup with a Weber 32/36 and it will be very peppy but I wouldnt bother with the K-Jet as you'd need to swap in a diesel or FI tank and lines. Not worth it for a low comp yank motor.

If it is not a genuine GTI, then I would start modifying the b'jeesus out of it.

Bolting in a standard engine and being a daily is simply absurd talk.

        thanks hiho

how much do you think the weber and conversion parts will cost (excl. labour)?

fair point but I also have a 2012 tsi which im going to trade up for an evo8 mr in a few months so that will satisfy my need for speed

I just want a cheap reliable fuel efficient run around, but just out of interest what would you do in terms of mods? and if I did that would there be any value in tidying up the US left hand drive cabriolet and selling it here? its pretty immac already, been parked for a day and had a note on there asking if I wanted to sell

I'll be honest, it depends on what your classification of immaculate is.

To daily I would look at a spring/shock combo rather than coil overs as Sydney roads are a menace. A 1.8 conversion and a 5 speed is pretty easy work and with a weber on it very simple to install. It is really hard to say to be honest, and I am probably not the right person to talk to about keeping things standard! Happy to help though if you have more info.

            thanks for the replies

my personal preference is to start stock and do mods gradually so you get the most enjoyment each time you add a new mod

I spoke to my mate (the mechanic) he said it does have a motor and gearbox just no head so we will put the head on, ill drive it for a while as is, then when he finds a good 1.8 we will drop that in there with a 5 speed

ill keep the US cabby in the garage and gradually add the brakes and roll bars etc, it also has some pretty good rabbit badges, gauges etc which I can put it

              My 2cents

              reliability :-

Bilstien shocks with eibach springs ( dont think anyone does the full bilstein kit any more, so you have to make it )
1.8 engine on a carb ( simplicity ) have it dynoed so to ensure the tune. Electronic distributor and have the timing curve reset.

Front / rear sway combo, brakes, booster + master cyl.

For better long term electrical reliability swap the harness from the Cabby into the Mk 1 ( what year Mk1 btw ?? ) fuse box / relay plate is way better than the early stuff.

5 speed ( use the linkages, shift box from the cabby)

Keep it simple and with as later model Mk1 stuff as you can find.

              Good luck dude.

You can use the 1.8 head from the injected car, just plug the injection holes.
              Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

              Cheers,
              Grant...

What would you do with an MK1 Immaculate Original 2 door?? If this was me i wouldn't be using it as a daily and it'll be sitting in a garage but that depends on how immaculate it was.

Many years ago i ran my mk1 2dr as a daily 1.8l on k-jet did about 600kms a week for 3 years no dramas

My vote goes to keeping it original, so hard to find unmodded ones these days. I would keep the original motor and box, just drive and enjoy it! Please post pics
