haha Pete! long time man where have you been? the white car went eastward a long time back, still remember the trip up to get it! mikinoz on here is continuing it nicely. Is your little brown beast still on the road?
She is getting the attention she deserves over here in Sydney...
I am amazed, why are all the metallic coloured MK1's so prone to rust - it is always the brown and the silver ones that seem to be the most rotten - you are lucky to find that one...

Good to see the white car's getting finished off Mick, it's travelled quite the distance in it's lifetime for a little golf.
Yeah I got very lucky with this one, apart from the seam in the wing it's the driest golf I've seen so far, it was nice to pull the carpets up and see factory floors. It does seem the metallics were prone to rusting, perhaps something to do with the coating they used.
will do Wade!, Geoff I've just seen the Araluen thread I'll be back that week so very keen!
the bbs are still in the garage Pete a different set of wheels to try arrived last break so will have to get some rubber on them

Metalic paint & clear breaks down faster than solid colours, allowing the paint remaining to breathe... air and water unfortunately. I rubbed back my silvergreen Scirocco back in 2003 and the bare metal was so covered in patchy rust spots !! Motto is if the paint is fading get a respray ASAP !!

Yeah, my metallic red/maroon one is all rusty underneath too.... they look alright on the outside, and are falling apart inside.
On the other hand, almost nothing looks worse than a mexico beige original paint job, but the rust seems to stay around the surface more.
