  • 16 x 8..... Will it fit?! (Probably not, but can we make it fit?)

SO I have the option of some nice round new shoes for my mk1, but they are 16 x 8 at the rear and 16 by 7 at the front. Can anybody with superior brain power to that of myself, give me an idea of the likelihood of getting this under my arches all nice and tucked away all pretty?

I've deffo seen them on a mk1 before but cant find anything on the forums (or vortex) about the actual build of that particular car. Also that car might be 15's - I just don't know

Incidentally (and you'll probably all guess what kind of shiny new shoes they are from this) the offset is very high, like 52. What kind of problems am I going to face because of that? Also I understand I'll have to get hold of some (illegal) adapters and that they might need to be 25mm or more.

Any help would be ace! Cheers chaps.

    Adam.

16x8's will fit under, depending on how high the car will be, if the guards are rolled and what tyre and adapter size, anything around 20mm to 25mm thick adapters is spot on, if you want to run stretch a 165/45r16 will give you quite a big stretch without taking any serious risk's.....

      Wow 52 offset lol.

Anyway you would most definately need to get spacers to push it away or it will rub on the coilovers. Thats assuming you have coilovers. If you dont have coilovers and are running normal suspension i think you dont need to space it out as much, but seeing its an increased rolling diameter it might hit the bottom plate of the suspension where the spring sits.

Other than the it doesnt really matter i reckon i think a 7 in the front should fit, and 8 on the rear is big, but its not impossible. A bit of a guard roll to avoid killing the tires and you'll be fine.

However front and back, being 16's, i dont think you would be able to go very low

Cheers lads! I've just had a look on tyrestretch.com and seen this:
Tyrestretch.com - 7_165_40_R16 and the 165/45 that Dom suggested looks a bit better actually but both look alright.

and for the rear something like this:
Tyrestretch.com - 8_195_40_R16 looks like its the way to go.

Thats gotta be one of the harder parts I think. Next is, yeah, making sure the dont hit the suspension. I don't have coilovers I have (will have) Koni shockies and the springs I think will lower it by about 1.5", so not heaps. but the springs that are on it at the moment are bigger still so if I'm stuck I can use them(?) or get bigger ones surely? I'd like to have them a little under the arches and with that kind of stretch they should be alright possibly?

Theres a Jap garage over the road from mine that will stretch tyres so I might have a chat to them about it, as well.

Thanks for your help fellas, ask and you shall receive - I bloody love this forum!

im also assuming they are porsche wheels?

these were fitted to my car 16x8 with 25mm adapters, they sat flush with the rear guard, unrolled will be rubbing, if i was to do that setup again itll be rolled guards and a 165 tyre

Haha you read my mind. Check that PM I just sent you Dom! Ha! Yeah its those exact wheels and oh my how beautiful they do look on your Mk1.

            Rolled guards, Check.
            Adapters, Check (almost).
165 tyres... next on the list.

Anything else you can think of, having been there and done that? Also, you don't happen to have the adapters still do you?
