Here's the list of to do's
    Re-attach rear vision mirror
Find out why there is a screw driver holding the drivers seat in place?
Find out why trip meter says Sydney to Newcastle is only 40klm?.
Find out why there is so much oil over the motor
Find out why 3rd is easier to find than first
Find out why it smells like a ferret when the lids down
Find out how to top up the power hood oil
Find out why the brakes are so spongy
Find out why the rear wheel screams like a banshee
Find out why the brake light keeps flashing on and off.

I'm having so much fun and I havent even started to pull her apart yet, bring on the weekend.

Love the Forums look forward to sharing some great experiences.

I think your car must be a Cabrio Mk1 not a Mk2 if you have a hydraulic hood.

        Show us a pic.

Find out why there is a screw driver holding the drivers seat in place?
(probably need new nylon shims in the tracks)

Find out why trip meter says Sydney to Newcastle is only 40klm?.
(the barrels are slipping on their axle. Take the speedo to VDO. About $80)

Find out why there is so much oil over the motor
(Could be as simple as the seal under the filler cap - try a new cap)

Find out why 3rd is easier to find than first
(Probably a linkage issue, the kits are not expensive. Brian at GTI probably has them as well as good advice 0296531114)

Find out why it smells like a ferret when the lids down
(You maybe got a ferret in the works)

Find out how to top up the power hood oil

Find out why the brakes are so spongy
(Its a generic Mk 1 design feature. As well it could be related to your flashing light. Check the fluid level fast)

Find out why the rear wheel screams like a banshee
                  (Wheel bearing?)

Find out why the brake light keeps flashing on and off.
(The light has two signal functions: low fluid level, no pad depth)

Looks like its gone to good hands.
                  Pretty car.

I had a full day working on the Cab yesterday, this is the progress. (thanks for everyones help)

Find out why there is a screw driver holding the drivers seat in place?
(probably need new nylon shims in the tracks)
((The Spike that normally takes the place of the screwdriver was found under the seat, The tube/Guide that it sits in has been completly snapped off. It will require me doing a bit of mild spot welding, Nylon seat guides also shot))

Find out why trip meter says Sydney to Newcastle is only 40klm?.
(the barrels are slipping on their axle. Take the speedo to VDO. About $80)
(( took the speedo out it sound like a maraca, will have to go to VDO))

Find out why there is so much oil over the motor
(Could be as simple as the seal under the filler cap - try a new cap)
((the other culprit, The oil sender switch))

Find out why 3rd is easier to find than first
(Probably a linkage issue, the kits are not expensive. Brian at GTI probably has them as well as good advice 0296531114)
((replaced a missing bush, all the other bushes seem ok, gear stick travel is a lot better but still hard to find 1st, Golf Loon thinks it may be the linkage needs adjustment))

Find out why it smells like a ferret when the lids down
(You maybe got a ferret in the works)
(( Got the pressure washer out, the result had a resemblence to Stout/Guiness or Tooheys Old, Previous owner was obviously a dog/ferret lover))

Find out how to top up the power hood oil
(( looks like there is a bolt on top of the drive unit, may be able to fill it via a squirt bottle filled with clutch fluid, Has anyone had to fill these units before?))

Find out why the brakes are so spongy
(Its a generic Mk 1 design feature. As well it could be related to your flashing light. Check the fluid level fast)
((Fluid level was fine, rear shoes have about a Mil left on them, talking to Golf Loon about some options)

Find out why the rear wheel screams like a banshee
                    (Wheel bearing?)
                    ((rear brake shoe is scrapping))

Find out why the brake light keeps flashing on and off.
(The light has two signal functions: low fluid level, no pad depth)
((think its because of the 2nd one))

Looks like its gone to good hands.
                    Pretty car.

Thanks, with a bit of work and some help I think it will come up a treat.

I'm very impressed with how well they go, eats the `79 Porsche 924 I use to have.

I thought some Cab owners may have warned me about cruising with the top down, My receding forehead glows brighter than my brake warning light now!!!!!

Did I forget to mention that.

The Fake twin exhaust system is GONE.

After a few skined knuckles and jammed fingers, I dispatched it with an angle grinder. It now sits in the bottom of the Wiz Bin.

I now have a usable tow hook ( I hope I wont need to use it but)

G'day indi & welcome to the forum.

Nice looking original car you have there.

It wouldn't be a mk1 if you just brought it & didn't have to do anything to it

Just read the whole post & glad your working through your list & also that there's nothing major to do. Just little odd's & end's.

Hope it all work's out & hopefully you can enjoy it for a very long time.

                              Spongy Brakes...

I read on UK Forum...that a Mk2 Master Cyl... will help... I have not done yet but plan to do it.

While we are talking Mk1 cab probs... can anyone suggest solutions to shakes and bumps... do the Stress bars help... across the struts? I have replaced shocks all round and strut tops... but still clunks and bangs?
