  • MK1 Golf - Project

    Hi All

I have been on this forum before with another MK1 but unfortunately I had to stop the project as there was just too much rust to make it worthwhile.

This time I hope to have some success. Fingers crossed.

Plans are for a weekend fun car, stripped out interior no rush on completion. Enjoy the project and learn new skills.

There is rust around the corner scuttle panels and around the return lip on the rear QTR windows. This was exposed once I took the windows out.

Unfortunately, a previous owner had fitted an aftermarket sunroof, I think this had leaked in the past and caused water to run down the a-pillars and rusted the scuttles

Floors are perfect and most of the car is fairly straight.

I hope to keep this post up to date and share the project and ask you guys questions along way.

    Cheers

    Martin

Drysponge that interior is ace. Dash looks great. Seems a shame to get rid, I bought mine stripped out with some polo 9n gubbins (dash and seats), I wish I had an interior like that (bar the grey seats maybe haha) Good luck with the project buddy!

Velly, did you see the Rugby the other day? Pretty close but I think you probably deserved the win in the end!

The dash is in bad condition under the mat. Seats aren’t great either under the covers. I quite fancy the idea of a stripped out interior, just dash and door cars no rear seats, new paint on the interior.

Ah fair enough matey. Yeah that does sound mint. Just bare painted metal? I'm thinking of doing a new carpet for mine, can't decide whether to keep the halfcage that's in it or get rid - I dont plan on taking it round any laps ant any point, but its a bit different I suppose...plus its welded in haha.

Way cool, mate! Don't be in too much of a rush to ditch all the interior. It really doesn't make that much of a difference and it's really nice to have a weekender with 4 seats and carpet, I think.

                          Good luck with the project.

Do not, what ever you do lose the retro stripe! That's awesome.

Still kept the interior incase I want to switch back. I think I just like the idea of a stripped ot raw feel to it. If it ever gets on the road
