Guys, I need some help. We are using what I have been told is a MK1 Golf radiator on our superkart and I want to replace it. I have found this 40mm MK1/2 Golf 8 100% new oversize aluminum radiator | eBay

What I am unsure about is I can't see the filler cap, on ours the cap is top of the opposite tank to where the hoses are. I would like an ally one as I can weld the hose adaptors onto the spiggots out of the tank to reduce the size for the 19mm hose which the kart uses. Can someone confirm where the filler cap is on MK1 golf and is the link the correct radiator for an early MK1 if indeed that is the radiator we have on the kart. TIA.

there are two types of mk1 rad's, with and without cap's, hose position is the same

So I presume that the one in the link is without. Any leads on getting one with the cap or do I have to do a recore?

If you are dead set on the alloy rad you can either go with a header tank (which you prob wont have room for) or get an inline filler if you have enough space in the top rad hose to plumb one in. Otherwise a recore sounds pretty good.

They're still available new in the US. The MK1 Caddys had them over there.

As to an all alloy one a company like PWR could make you one PWR Aluminium Radiators, Intercoolers & Oil Coolers

on the topic of radiators is it fairly easy to fit the larger mk2 etc rads into the mk1/are they needed? might be due for a replacement soon and thinking about some extra capacity if I do

I had one on my green car with twin fans. It seemed to fit pretty well.
