Engine Numbers Missing

Hi Guys

Have been cleaning up an old 4door diesel for a while now. Repainted, new shocks, brakes, head etc.
Anyway, yesterday I was organising a new head gasket and what not when I noticed the engine only has CK stamped on it and the VW symbol stamped at the end. I was expecting to see some number in between the two.

Any idea why these numbers would be missing? Looking at it, it would have to have been machined out as the surface isn't roughed up at all.

As the car is unregistered, i'm getting rather worried this may cause quite a few problems.

In Qld at least, the local rego will issue you a new number to stamp onto it if you apply.

Unfortunately I'm moving to Tasmania in a month. Was hoping to have this car on the road by then, an even contemplating driving across.
Alas, this morning when I pulled the head back off I found some small cracks in the block. Not happy.
I had left this car with my dad and he had pulled the head off after starting the car when it was out of time. Anyway purchased a new head and put that on. Started that and the gasket blew. Hence why I just took the head back off.
It is a pity but now I'm having to get rid of it, but i'll start a new project in Tasmania where i'll have the time.
So if any perth people are interested in a parts car, or wants to fix this one up.. its going cheap
