Just curious if anyone knows a way around using a cable speed sensor for the mk1/2/3 8v gearboxes. Doing some more welding in the bay and questioning whether or not I should weld up the hole. Is there anyway to do it electrically?

 Thanks!

Ps. The engine bay is getting much closer, spoke to a panel beater friend and got pushed in the right direction for painting and filler etc. getting eager.- Orange Golf mk1 LS, 1.8 5speed, 32/36 - sold

Got a fair bit of work done in the past few days. Won't mention it all. Picked up a mk3 wiper motor thanks to Lawrence (stu's old mk3 vr6 cabby) and went about making it fit. I re drilled new holes and spun it round, as I want it tucked away as much as possible.

Started off drilling the holes after careful measurement. Just took a pic to those who say they don't have the skills or tools to do anything on their own - $99 drill from Aldi, works sooooo good for the money I paid a few days ago. Just couldn't resist. I think they are still on sale!!

Then welded it all and filler it up and ground it down again. Will get it perfect when powder coating all the bits.

After plenty of test, fab, test, fab, test, fab fit weld cut I have managed to make my ghetto bracket. Holds the motor quite nicely, and is tucked away from site!

Got my mark and welded a small nut to the fire wall.this will be where the bracket is mounted to

And here is the final result. Can't see any part of the motor or bracket, and yet it's still nice and sturdy. May not be the most fanciest brackets etc to some of the high end builds, but it will do

Also started working on the new gas pedal. The rear of the car has had holes welded in, and I'll be doing more shaving there too. X brace will be re made and will look nuts when done! Stay tuned for thst.

I haven't tested it to be honest Bryce, but it's just like a gyro system. It has a balljoint/pillar so it will spin no matter where the motors is.Originally posted by dubstar View PostDoes turning the motor around change the sweep of the wipers? i.e. when you put the arm back on will it foul the scuttle or braket?

Also the angle hasn't been changed of the wiper mechanism so there will be no hitting on the scuttle.- Orange Golf mk1 LS, 1.8 5speed, 32/36 - sold

I bought a Nevada ARC/MIG/TIG/MMA welder for $369 and should be here friday to start my fab work on mine.

On another note, love how you try and do everything yourself. Respect for doing that. And for me personally, thats the only way you are going to learn how to do everything.
