I'm in the process of fitting a mk2 gti engine into the golf, just curious as to how people go about fitting the mk2 alternator.
The 1.6 brackets won't fit the later alternator as the mounting holes are in different positions, however the mk2 gti alternator mount protrudes over the side of the block towards the pulleys, which is in the way of the mk1 engine mount. do most people just heat the mount and put a bend in it and stay with the mk2 gear or stick with the mk1 brackets and make up a few extras?
