  • 4 speed & 5 speed shifter bushings. Same or different?

    Hey all,

I want to replace the sloppy bushes out of my mk1, but have a question regarding to the shifter bushings. It's got a 5 speed box from a mk2 GTI in it. If i was to order bushes, should i do so according to the model of the car the box came out of? Or true to the chassis?

depends on if you have a proper 5 speed linkage setup or a modified 4 speed setup.

      Bushes are the same.

Selector rods and transfer lever are different , there's 4 speed ones and 5 speed ones.

The 4 speed selector rods have white ends and the 5 speed ones have black ends.

The ball on the end of the transfer lever is a smaller diameter on a 4 speed.

Take a look at the offerings on GAP.

Thanks for the info Peter; in summary, any bush kits for the MK1 will work.

Some kits come with the selector rods and transfer lever. You need to specify 4 or 5 speed for those kits.

Kits that are bushes only suit either 4 or 5 speed boxes.
