  • the "new" ls - pics from today

well i did some DIY'ing today, alah bunnings style cold air intake and cone filter for the LS with the weber dgv....

also, i figured you guys havnt seen the new car really so i thought i'd give you some pics 'n specs...

...the filter, as seen by the oncoming cold air...

...the pipe that carries all the goodness...

...the adapter for the pipe onto the redline filter holder. i havnt modified the holder, all i did was make a dummy filter out of some 13x50mm HD rubber from clark rubber, then used a 50x100x90mm pvc stormwater adapter to go from the front of the old filter housing to a round pipe. a 90-65mm reducer, 65mm pipe to a 45deg 65mm bend, and the cone filter goes right on the end of the bend..

whole thing cost me less than $20, i or $50 inc the filter....

    now to the exterior...

car is riding on the old 14x6's from the gld. i have koni red adjustables in the rear, bilstein adjustables in the front. king lowering springs in rear and spax lowering progressive rate coils on the front. 22mm front sway bar, lower wishbone brace.

2.25" exhaust, extractors, weber 32/36 dgv carbie on otherwise stock 1600.

its a hoot! those with a keen eye will notice the rear wheels stick out quite a bit, 12mm spacers under the rear stub axles on each side helps a lot....

I'm inspired! I have a 1900cc Audi engine in the bay, and the same webber32 sandwich filter.

I have been frequenting a Bunnings for plumbing gear recently (another project - SPUD CANNON), so i'll grab a filter and some induction plumbing and post a picture when i've done it!

then I'll mount the spud-cannon on the roof, and have a APC-Golf.

                  hehehe

shux brackie cheers guys. thanks for the encouragement. i love the apc idea!

got the carbie cleaned today, had a problem over the weekend that prevented the car frm idling at all. the idle circuit on the primar was totally blocked with some crud...

as a result, i can give you guys some JETTING INFO! wohoo! but its only a provisor, since this carbie is WEIRD. its got venturies in it from some other carbie, and a strange air bleed port in the primary..???

anyhoo. the carbie atm has a genuine 135 main jet with 190 air corrector. these dont appear to be modified. the car gets good economy, and runs very well (on the primary). i can consistently get better than 7l/100km highway driving and better than 8.5l/100km in town being nice.

the secondary is an unknown jet size, but i would say is bigger than 145 (its marked 135 but has been bored out.. ) and has a 195 air corrector.

the primary idle jet is .5 and the secondary is .55 - pretty normal.

i will be finding a 135 jet for it soon to see if it will lean out the secondary a bit. at the mo, its black smoke and no power once the seconday opens up, causing some serious annoyance to me.

theres the warning to all those who think you can just drill out your jets and go faster....

                      happy golfing,

it does remind me of the gld, except theres less smoke and more acceleration as opposed to more smoke and less acceleration
