Mk1 Opening to Fixed Quarter Window Conversion

Hi everyone, one of the major issues I need to fix on the GLD (apart from the head gasket, dodgy wiring and re-spray ) are the front door quarter windows - they have been glued shut with silicon because the latches have come off. Infact the passenger side window is a sheet of plastic that looks like it has been cut out of a chinese takeaway container lid! Becase the seals are totally screwed and I'm missing the passenger glass (also I have no idea how I would stick the latches back onto the glass and actually get them to stay stuck there), I was wondering how easy it would be to convert them to fixed quarter windows? And it seems that you can just swap the opening and non-opening ones across? Are they completely interchangable? I.e. If I removed my old opening quarter window and seal, would a fixed glass window and seal go straight back in? For those of you who have done this conversion, roughly how much $$ did you pay for a pair of fixed glass windows and seals?

Yer just swap them over , remember the sly screw behind the seal on the top edge. Pull the window towards the rear from the top and pivot it outdated from memory the clear the mounting tab , if your game to pull the scrapers it makes it easier. One thing to note is the channel is different , y shaped for opening h shaped for fixed.

It's easy as. It'll become obvious as it unfolds, just start by stripping the inner seals, take off the doorcard and drill the factory rivet, and take the lot out.

Fixed ones pop up on ebay regularly for like $30ish? I payed $250 (including international shipping) for working opening ones

Thanks heaps guys, I was hoping it would be an easy swap. I'll keep my eye out for some on ebay and will post a wanted ad as well. As they've never worked since I've had the car I won't miss not having them - and as much as I'd like to keep the car original at least the fixed quarters were factory fitted on other models so they won't look out of place (plus the car has a Mk2 disc rear end so it's not a super original car to start with!).
