  • BBS RS (what offset?)

    Hi all

I am looking at a set off BBS RS wheels for my mk1, but im not sure what offset to choose

I want to put a set of 3.5 " lips for the wheels on cause i want them wideee

looking on import monster atm, but i cant seem to find any with a lower offset than 45 would they work?

any help would be appreciated TB

Seems you have alot to learn.

Adding bigger lips increases width, which effects offset.

Starting off with a high offset skinny wheel and adding wide lips is the best way to go.

there are plenty of tools out there to help calculate offset changes with different widths etc.

don't forget that you can change barrels too, to get a narrower inner barrel and wider lip. But you could potentially be limited by the centre pieces offset.

There are so many variables at play, that there is no simple answer.

Lips 3.5" are huge, so chances are (unless you're going go to go to the effort of changing barrels as well) you're going to end up with VERY wide wheels (9"+)They are very hard to fit onto the back of a mk 1, let alone the front.

    8" Et25 is a good starting point.

I have 3 1/2 lips on my rs's , which takes them to 9 1/2 ,would be hard to pull off on standard arches if you wanted any lows. 8 is a good number.

if it helps im running 15x8 fronts et 15 and 15x18.5 rears et 13 (if i havent lost my offset calculating skills) and from my perspective this is absolute border line if i was to go any wider would definately need proper fabrication done to the arches.

Bear in mind also I am running -3 degrees camber on the rear to help tuck.

Mine are bbs rms they were 15x6.5 et23 when i first got them.

Well I like being helpful, but didn't want to go all out and give away all my perfect offsets, that i've spent many hours researching and calculating.

All the info is already on the forums, if you can't figure it out between here and the 'tex; you dont deserve phat wheels!

Not anyone can go sticking 9.5" wide RS's on a mk 1, and have it work though.

Should have heaps of room george.
