That's the one! It was love at first sight ha.

I had never seen or heard of a mk1 in my life!

I spend all day sanding back the rust around the boot lining, I bought some 3m rust converter and metal and lightweight body filler to go on next. Then Im either gonna get some vw paint if I can find any? or just take a sample to a panel beater..

Paint code will be a simple four-figure code, I can't be stuffed working out what colour your paint is.

You cant go wrong with the new engine and gearbox side mounts, although getting the old ones out is a little tricky. You need to very carefully cut the internal ring with a hacksaw in a couple of places without damaging the outer ring and it should come out ok, then use a vice or a press to get the new one in, funnily enough I just did this yesterday (remember to mark which way up it goes). As for the other mounts I went with this.

took the engine out today. no hiccups. which is pretty good considering my previous mechanical expertise consists of.....well it doesnt!

i guess i should be more worried about putting it back in, but that will be a while off.

                              I will be :
                              - respraying the engine bay after i sort out the rust and remove the scuttle tray
                              - fit new timing belt and maybe timing tensioner and cams, maybe some red ones..
                              - chrome the rocker and cam cover (anyone know of any good chromers?? ha)
                              - clean and possibly paint engine, simple black or grey/silver
                              - new braided brake lines
                              - all new hoses ..maybe in red but no idea where i would find em..
                              - fit new prothane engine mounts
                              - repaint the underside of the bonnet and touch up the areas that i will get the rust converter on

then i will do the interior but thats another day!
