  • want to get a new carpet set for my 4door mk1

hey guys, the only person that seems to be selling carpet sets new for mk1 is norton industries, but they onkly make em for 2 doors, will the 2 door fit? and does it matter if its rhd or lhd?

does anyone know where we can get a carpet set a bit closer to home?

    thanks

    check out http://www.knoxautocarpets.com.au/
They are based in vic, but they ship Oz wide (according to their ad in SM) They have moulded carpets for 76 - 80 golfs (plus heaps of other makes and models) in three different types of piles and lots of colours, you'd be looking at about $150 - $200 shipped I think, depending on pile. I've not used these guys before, so this isn't a recommendation, just relaying their ad basically. Give em a ring (numbers on website somewhere,) I'm sure they'll be able to help you out.

alternatively, you could make your own - http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ead.php?t=4522

thanks for that, seems alot more affordable than the uk guys, do you know if they make a felt underliner or is it even neccessary? or can i just glue the carpet set straight to the metal?

For underlay, I'd just go to carpet shop to get the thickest one for your home floor.

I exchanged pm with the e-bay guy, he claimed to be rebuilding a MK1 himself, so maybe we should invite him to join the forums and share the love

            Carpets

A couple of years ago, A forgotten bottle of milk leaked on to the carpets of my Hyundai Excel...New replacements were about $500. Tru-Fit carpets were $250.00 which I purchased. I found the fit very loose and had to pack areas with sound deading felt, as well as cutting holes for seat belts etc. and after buying felt the cost was about $400. They also faded and collect dust.
Overall I wish I spent the extra $ on new ones.
But I Guess MK1 Golf carpets are not at the VW parts dept now
Most of all measure twice and cut once!

hey fellas, thanks for all the links, the guy on ebay seems alright, anyway for your reference, i asked if they fit 4 door and if there is a felt underlay kit.

              here is his response:

              Hello,

These do fit the four door, and the uderlay comes in rolls 1mx1.8m long.

              Front & Rear $140.00
              Underlay to suit $60.00
              Freight $25.00

I have just done a carpet install on my fairmont ghia, got it from "protecta mat" aus wide apparently. Undefelt was definitely needed and it took a lot of effort to fit, had to hack out a lot to get it any where near fitting, and the join of the front and rear carpet runs straight thru the handbrake!!! Don't expect it to be an easy job and don't be afraid to cut the carpet. Only cost $200 including felt
