Started trolling for quick rack options, quaif list 2.9 and 3.1 turns lock-to-lock. Interested I went out to the shed and checked the rack out of my golf, I measured a bit less than 3 turns - ok the rack is on the bench, but I wonder how this compares to other peoples' cars.
VW Motorsport quick racks for the golf1 were made until the mid 80's but supplies dried up by the late 80,s. Maybe you might be lucky and find one on UK ebay.

If it measures less than 3, surely you are right anyway?
Surely a smaller steering wheel is the easy answer anyway.
