I thought the Mk2 Vented Rotors and calipers are the same as a MK1 GTi?
If so they will fit straight onto a Mk1, just need to bend/cut the backing plate to fit the longer caliper in.

would be no need to use any steering parts from a mk2 either.

It can be done but you really need to be expert in this stuff and know what you're trying to achieve.

The strut tops are different, hence Volksee's comment, you'd need to weld in MK2 strut towers and make sure the geometry came out right.

It's possible to modify the MK2 hub carrier to bolt onto the bottom of a MK1 strut but the steering arm postion is different. There is some machining required to do this.

The MK2 GTIs sold here have the caliper carrier built into the hub carrier, so whilst you can use the disc and caliper on a mk 1 as GRN_VAGN suggests you still need to find the right caliper carriers to go with it. (Those are very rare).

The only time you'd consider adapting the MK2 hub carrier is if you can get hold of some MK2 16v carriers as they have seperate caliper carriers and will allow bolt up of 280mm brake components. The car needs to be low and you'll have to run MK2 rack ends so the steering geometry works. Even then you might still have bump steer or Akerman issues.

Just use MK1 GTI bits. It'll just bolt on.
