  • My 78' MK1 GLD - Offset Help

    Hey guys,

Just got a MK1 GLD the other week. Been looking at a set of Enkei92's... Black center with pollished lip...

    Offset as follows:

    15x8 +25 all round.

I know that the rears should sit nicely with the right amount of 'Poke' but the front's I am a bit worried about, will they be bulging out too much?

Anyone with pics and stats of their offset on their MK1 would be good.

    Pic of potential wheel:

Assuming you're on coilovers, you'll struggle to fit anything with a higher offset (in 15x8 ) on the front. As it is, you'll need a stretched tyre and have to be very careful of your camber settings, as the inside of the wheel/tyre can hit the coilovers.

But yes, they'll fit. Should be roughly 10-15mm poke.

If anything, you might end up spacing the back slightly. (dpending on tyre size)

What tyres were you planning on running?

My local tyre shop stock a Federal 595 in a 195/50/15, which should offer a little bit of stretch with a nice tyre pattern.

Yes, the car is on Coilovers, I dont mind running the car a tad higher to avoid tyre rub in the front. If i could have found the wheels in +15 instead of +25 it would be ideal but i will just have to make do.

+25 would be more preferable to +15. Then it gives you a bit of room to play with some spacers, if need be. Where as +15, is already a fair bit of poke. You could easily add a 3 or 5mm spacer if you wanted to, to the +25.

tbh, 195/50 isn't much of a stretch, and especially on the front, you're going to have to run a skinnier tyre. Sure you could have it higher up, but then it could just look silly. Where as a skinnier tyre and adequate lows will have it looking schmick. I would suggest a 195/45 minimum, or preferably a 185/45. Just my advice. Remember, a 15x8 on a mk 1 (especially the front) is a very aggresive fitment.

15x8 is pretty serious on a Mk1 mate. I hope you're ready to do some guard rolling..

Yeah I see what you mean, I live in Brisbane so finding decent tyres which are good sizes looks like my next challenge, but also at an affordable price. If i have an issue with front coilover scrub I can always, like you said, spacer it out 3mm or 5mm.

I prefer the smaller tyre look giving maximum stretch, on my Lexus I ran a 17x10 with a 215/45/17 looked perfect.

Should I get these rims, which is a good possibility, I'll keep an eye out for the 185/45.

Thanks for all your help too, much appreciated.

I know, only downside in rolling the guards is the previous owner did a full respray, so when they attempted to roll the guards it started to crack quiet a bit on the inner guard, you can feel it. I would need to either heat the guard up a bit, possibly bubbling the paint, or take it to a panel beater which means serious dollars.

Either way, I'll be squeezing 8's under there haha

Here is a pic of the old girl.... as it sits now in my garage, only without the rims, got the car with stock wheels as I am obviously putting new ones on.

Yeah, my friends and I find it more of a challenge, and when you do pull it off, driving it feels great. You get good looks and interest.. (and some looks like this ) Haha.

A mate of mine is a photographer for SpeedHunters locally here in Brisbane, so once I get it all put together nicely and sitting low, we're do a shoot.

Hey dude i've put on OG SANS which is +25 15x8 with i think it was 195/50 and it was fine. Didnt poke out as much as i wanted it to though, just sat flushly with the guard.

I dont think you'll have major problems if you jsut roll the inside gaurd.
