      Signature looks good.
      Manual on its way.
There is a bloke up the road has a 1.6 Golf Engine for F2 racing. It runs a dry sump and doesnt look much like a motor in one of our Golfs.
They have just started a new racing series, Formula R or Formula Robertson in QLD and they use a 2L 16v Block and a 1.8 Head. They hve limited the air intake, but get 200HP from the engines and they last a few seasons which you dont get with other brands.

I liked the bit about one of these cars passing all but one of the Formula Holdens

            BTW, why a 1.8 head?
            Cost?

I think the 1.8 head is accepted as the best performance 8V head vw make.

                    Ok, one more.

                    What does 10,000rpm get you?
                    Well, this really:

Always wanted to find a video of that purple Berg Cup car.
                    Just tripped over it....

There is a healthy number of these cars running around in the Australian F2 Club in NSW, google their web site and you will be able to see some of the cars which run these engines.

For most of the 80s the Golf was the engine of choice.

They were also fragile as hell, but if you wanted to win you had to race one. Things obviously improved with the introduction of the 8500 rev limit. One comment I heard at this year Phillip Island Historic meet was "That from the first turn of the key you started counting down until the engine would let go. The only problem was that you never knew what number to start at."

If you need any advice on your engine you need to get in touch with Tom Brinkley in Sydney he looks after several vw powered F2 cars and is a brilliant source of information. You can also check bertils engines web site in the US.

The 8V is a super simple motor, so just pull it apart and get a list of torque settings, be careful though as all sorts of stuff could be machined to different specs, bore stroke etc, the head is likely to be quite different from standard too.

Just to clear up, the cams imposed rev limit was due to the fact that the vw guys were getting 11000rpm / 210hp! whilst some blew up mostly it was the other engines that were popping trying to keep up with the vw's. The 8v head is no performance head at all but can be made to work well enough, all cost related
