  • MK1 Fuel question

    Hi everyone
    I am new to the MK1 1976 .
Just bought it for a few days.
The tank will be empty soon.
Now a question just come up, do i fill in normal unleaded? does it require any lead additive or anything else? how much additive do i need?

    Cheers

The old Super Petrol we used to have before 1986 introduction of unleaded fuel requirements was a higher octane that current unleaded. The use of 95 RON Premiuim won't hurt the car, but will certainly keep the carby and head cleaner.

          Two things to consider:
          1. If it has had a life of standard petrol the Premium may dislodge years of build up from lesser fuels. So be prepared to clean your carby jets and replace the fuel filter after a few tanks of premium.
          2. How long since the head was rebuilt as many of the original build heads have valve seats that may need to be eventually replaced to deal with unleaded. The lead used to lubricate the valve seats.
