  • GLD questions.

I'm halfway through my GLD rest and have come to the pointy (metaphorically) end of the build.

I have dealt with almost all the rust but the engine bay is pretty scrappy so I have decided it's time to look after the mechanicals of my build.

I wanna keep it pretty stock so I'm keeping the original engine and stuff cos it's working pretty well. Only thing is, is it worth my time to take the engine out soda blast my bay and spruce up the engine.
Eg. Belts and seals and pipes and such.

By worth my time I mean will it prolong the life of my car/engine and ad to the value of it.

How hard is it to drop a 1.5 out of a mk1?
What else could I do to my mechanicals while the car is off the road?
Is there any easy power upgrades for my engine?

    thanks in advance guys.
I will update this thread as I think of more things as no doubt I will.

    Cheers, lofty.

apart from putting some extractors and a bit of an exhaust on the diesel, there's really not much out there for the 1.5D's. Maybe bigger injectors, but i'm not sure the value of them.

If you don't know what service history the engine has had, it would defiantly pay to do some work on it when the car's not a daily driver.

One thing that should definately get some attention is the timing belt and drivers side engine mount. both are probably worn, easiest to replace at the one time, and rather involved to replace, so it would be possibly advantageous to do it when it's out of the car.

as for engine removal. It's as simple as can be, cause there' really isn't a whole lot going on with teh deisels. Disconnect everything (fuel lines, rad hoses etc) drop the engine onto the ground and then use the engine crane to lift the car up, and drag the engine and box out together, (may as well inspect the flywheel and clutch whilst you're at it too ) That's just one way of removing the engine, there's a couple different methods, I do believe this is probably easiest.
