  • Difference between ABF and Kr cams?

Hey guys i wanted to know if theres a differnce between the two as i am busy with a 1.8 16v webber 40dcoe mk1 project.A friend of mine has a spare ABF head lying around...
Is it better to leave the stock cams in? Are the ABF cams slightly wilder or are they the same??

ABF cams have less duration and more valve lift, whereas KR cams have more duration and less lift (i.e. much of muchness)

The ABF has a different rod:stroke ratio and combustion camber shape than the earlier 16vs so the cams were allegedly matched to this. Real world difference is hardly noticeable, though.

FYI: Only ones to steer clear of are 9A/PL and 6A inlet cams as these are less aggressive to suit better torque down low. Putting these in a KR/ABF really makes for a noticeable loss of top end.

Make sure you skim the spare head and replace the valve stem seals while it's off too.

Thanks for the comment mate, so there isnt really a point of putting the ABF head on then?
il just keep the 1.8 head, polish and port when i change the cams...

The ABF head is a better casting than the others, so I'd use it anyway. Chances are, it's way lower mileage than the 1.8 one too, which will mean the valve guides have more life left in them
