Urgent help needed, ill try just about anything. Ill give you the whole story but you can skip it and go to the main point at the bottom.
The story goes like this, drove the car to the exhaust shop today to get the system modified with a resonator and exhaust tip, about 15-20min and the car was fine. Fine but not perfect, idle was at about 2k rpm because i cant get it lower and it bucks at 4.5k rpm when you give it full throttle. It was good enough to get me to the exhaust shop which means it would have been good enough to get me to SEDF as its just around the corner from the exhaust shop.
NOW problem is that after the resonator and exhaust tip where fitted the car wouldn't start and we spend about 4 hours trying to work out why. We re-did the timing several times to TDC without any luck. Previously the car would start first crank. After calling Stu he suggested to check the points gap, which we did and adjusted and she came to life. The timing wasn't perfect but it seemed good enough to get here home. It was pining at anything over 3k rpm and no chance of moving with full throttle, but could drive slowly home. Had to take the long way because i didn't want to get stuck in traffic and brake down. Five min from my house the pining gets really bad and car turns off.
At this point i got a lift home, got my Haynes manual and a bag of tools and made sure the timing was 100% and the points gap was to spec. But still had to fiddle with the dizzy to get it to start. Still could only idle at 2k rpm and couldn't give it any more throttle than about 25%.
THE MAIN DRAMA IS:
I finally got hold of a timing light so i can set the 6 degrees advance and found that as you get closer to the TDC mark in the gearbox turning the dizzy clockwise the car wants to turn off and it wont even make it to the 6 degrees mark. So i increased the idle on the carbie so that it does idle when at the TDC mark but as soon as you give it throttle, even a little, it just goes gay and turns off.
Please tell me what to do, i want to be able to drive her to SEDF!!
