  • Wiring in Thermo fan and Electric fuel pump

About to wire up a electric fuel pump and just want to make sure ive got this right before i start.

I want the pump to turn on when key is on "on" position, but i also want to manually turn it off just in case i need key on but pump off.

Using a relay do i do the following?

    40amp relay
    pin 30 - 20amp fuse - battery
    pin 87 - + on fuel pump
    pin 85 - Ignition
pin 86 - switch on dash - earth (want to use a spare Rear demister switch as it has a built in light and looks factory. Mate pointed out it might not be usable depending on how many amps will go through it, hence why i got it on the earth side.

    Now for the Fan
I want to use the stock fan and switch, but my wiring is melted. so i want to renew it.

    40 amp relay
    pin 30 - 20amp fuse - battery
    pin 87 - + on fan
    pin 85 ignition
pin 86 - temp switch on radiator - earth other side of switch

This seem ok? what size fuses should be enough? thinking 20amp might be low for fan.

For the fuel pump you shoud use a fuel pump relay. They turn the pump off when the motor isn't running so that in a crash the pump stops running rather than pumping fuel into the burning wreckage of your pride and joy.

You can use the one out of a MK3 or just buy an LPG safety relay, they do the same thing. Both types have an extra connection to connect to the coil.

Radiator fan should run directly off the battery as the fan should run on after you've turned the car off.

      Thanks Pete,

not sure i follow on the fan though, + on battery into fuse then to fan, then the earth from fan to switch and from switch to earth?

Did i get the fuel pump wiring right though? just swap relay with a Mk3 fuel pump one though

Got fuel pump wiring sorted fine,

Need to know if the Fan switch on the radiator is a earth switch, or power?

From reading about the wiring diagrams, it seems a Wire from G6 on fuse box goes to the fan switch, then from switch to fan, the fan to earth.
If so that means its a positive switch??

Anyone shed some light on how a stock fan is wired in to fusebox??
