  • Rear MK1 seat sizes/fittings

    I am learning about MK1 rear seats and would like to know if there would be any differences in size between the 5 door and the 3 door version of the rear bench.

    I have a suspicion that the 3 door rear bench is not quite as deep as the 5 door (for easier access and rear leg room) - but can anyone who is in the know possibly let me know?

    There were also differences between the latch mechanisms, with the latch being on the seat or on the body - again any idea on dates that these may have been introduced/changed?

    Fiddly stuff! Thanks for the advice.

    This is probably bull****, but I think 3 and 5 door's have the same rear seats, but the early cars have different latches for the rear bench. I think.

      That's a good question dude. I always assumed they were the same. Pretty sure the carpet etc fits 2 or 4 doors..

      Tim would know.. I'll ask him and post the answer as my own knowledge.. haha.

            So this is the seat and how it is sitting. I'm going to bet that it is 3 door as suggested which is a bummer as I want it to fit properly.

              Are they American Westy seats?

                  So from what I can work out there are a few differences and these are causing me issue;

                  The seat is defininately short on the base,
                  The base appears to be thinner than it might need to be (but that may be just me)
                  The back is not at the right angle to clear the strut tops
                  The folding mechanism under the seat does not fit (style or location)
                  The latches at the back are not high enough/sit back enough to connect.

                  In short, it's not going to fit without some work. If I try to locate a different back seat then it most likely won't match the fronts.

                  I think I need to speak to Matt...

                        Yeah, I will need to work though what I am going to do with this situation sometime during the next few days.

                        I hadn't assumed, I simply had not thought there would be a difference...
