With digifant or K-jet injection?
Would it be easier to get some serious headwork done, that'd get you into the 150+ hp range.MK2 - *Insert list of dealer purchased extra's/standard features here*

yes, yes you could.
it'd be easiest to run standalone managment. Nearly everything else would need to be modified or custom. Far from a bolt on affair.

Ahhh ok. what can you do with a 2E to improve its performance?
wikipedia says the 2E is stock with 85kw.. as apposed to a mk1 GTI 1.8L that has 67kw. so surely a 2E in something as light as a 2dr mk1 would make a fair bit?
just say the mk1 2dr wieghs 760kgs (through deleting most of the interior.. and runs a 2E at 85kw.. thats a power/weight ratio of approx 1:15.7.. right?
those figures (assuming they are close to accurate would suggest enough power to compete with a mk4 GTI 20vT surely?2012 Ford Focus - Panther Black

that set up (properly set up)_ would whollop most mk 4 gti's!
it'll even give standard mk 5's more than just a run for thier money.
There's plenty of potential going the NA route, before needing the added power of a turbo.

My 2E has a cam, dellortos and an 1800 head.
81kw at the front wheels.
It's got a bigger cam since it was last dynoed so it's got a little more now.
I'll get it retuned over Christmas and post the new numbers.

What you're not realising is that the 2E has a bucket load more torque than a 1600.
Lane changes are done with throttle and under steer. Even with a mild cam, k-jet and a stock 1800 head I could break traction in third gear in the wet.79 MK1 Golf Wreck to Race / 79 MK1 Golf The Red Thread / 76 MK1 Golf Kamei Race Car

And yes they are more of a torquey engine, I think max toque is at 3000rpm or just above? (atleast thats what it feels like!)MK2 - *Insert list of dealer purchased extra's/standard features here*

Dunno where my torque curve is, too many different cams. Current Cam is 306° and its still got torque enough from low rpm.79 MK1 Golf Wreck to Race / 79 MK1 Golf The Red Thread / 76 MK1 Golf Kamei Race Car

Tips? What transmission does it have on it?
Because this car will probably drive differently, Ill just mention some observations/experience with my 2E MK2.
Between 1000 and 2000 rpm its a little bit sluggy, but by 3000rpm the engine is well and truly awake!
You don't really need to rev it out for power either, power seems to end a bit before 5000 (bog standard engine). I like to keep it between 1800 and 2500rpm for everyday driving.
If the gear ratio's are similar to a MK2 then you'll be doing 3000rpm at 100km/h.
Sorry to bore you ;P
I look forward to ALL the photos, its a very very nice MK1.MK2 - *Insert list of dealer purchased extra's/standard features here*

carefully!
no point binning it the first day you owned it cause you were being daft.
Get it out on a track day, and really let loose and learn what she's capable of!
