  • Cylinder head replacement

Hi guys, need your help once again.

I need to replace the head on my GLS but im not to sure what these things are.

I have no idea what this is, but the replacement head doesnt have the holes for it. What does it do and is it needed?

This thing conects to the thing above. What is this? What does it do? What goes through the pipes? Is it needed?

The pipe labled 1 from the belt driven pump thing above connects to this thing but then everything els has been cut off. It looks like its suposta connect to the thing in the first picture but the previous owner has cut it off. I dunno what it is or if its needed or even if any of that stuff still works or does anything.

The new cylinder head does not have the holes for the first thing to screw in to so does that mean i can get rid of all of that? What does it all do and whats it all called?

Thanks guys, sorry if its stupid but i havnt seen this stuff before and its not on my k-jet motor in my GLi golf.

Throw it away. It's air pump and EGR pollution stuff.
The head that you are putting on is from a '76.

          Yeah Spyda, Phill is right
Lose all the pollution gear. It causes problems with noises and vacuum leaks and rarely works anyway. Leave a carbon cannister and you should be sweet for rego.
Make or find a short bracket to connect the alternator to the top of the head and loose that stupid big bar that goes down to the waterpump and the air pump.
You are using the early head, which is what most race golfs used as it is without pollution gear etc.
          Tidies your engine bay too.

There are 6 bolts that hold the inlet manifold on!

Sorry if that seems obvious but there's been a few threads with people claiming their manifolds were stuck on!

Set your motor to top dead centre before you pull the old head off to make re-timing the cam easier. Grab a manual or search the threads here if you don't know about cam timing.

That head should go on easily, I know, I took it on and off my car often enough!

              Have fun!

7 bolt's if it is still has the inlet to exhaust manifold support in the centre.

Can't remember the details, but I'd be careful with the head bolts you use.
The early bolts are different to the later variety (which I think were called 'stretch' bolts), Anyway the tightening procedure is different...

                        Read The F***ing Manual?????

                        I was wondering too.

(PS The Bolts I gave you with that head are the newer stretch Bolts.)
