Ahah yeah thanks, i know it'll be hard and expensive to get it all chromed like that previous photo i showed (its got pretty much all the chrome you could think off i think ahah)

      Looks good as is!

Can I have your mudflaps? haha.
Yeah I know! its crazy but lucky im only after one

(anyone know of anyone having "chrome painted" a plastic one before? and whether its noticeable? ive never used chrome paint before so i dont really understand it, especially on black plastic, how it could somehow turn out looking real?)

and for the mudflaps if you were being serious.. i'd swap em for that grille you had (not sure if you still got it)

Mate, I'm also in Brisbane and finishing uni soon. I'm on the hunt for an Mk1 so I can do an engine conversion. We should catch up sometime.

btw, don't over-chrome it. The pic you showed is a well-balanced example. Drop your Mk1 on coilovers, whack on some big dubs, and you'll be good to go.
Yeah coilovers sound delicious, as for big dubs, do you mean wheels? im thinking no bigger than 15" on mine
And thats sweet bout the interest, i'll PM you.

What colours were you thinking of?
alright, that's my biggest question too right now as it is going to be my nearest big expense, and mean alot to the car.
I want something that suits chrome, and even though the moustard does keep it "grandpa" real, and that a lot of moustard lovers are telling me i shouldnt change, i dont think moustard would suit the chrome as well as another colour.
I have really only found two cars that i like the chrome on and they are that previous one i showed and this one

But really im open for suggestions (preferably with a photo) if you may have any. just know im looking for a pretty unique colour preferably a vw colour.. But no Greens or Blacks (nothing to do with politics ) even though they can suit that chrome real good. and nothing common like dark blue, silver, or white that you see on every car. that should narrow down the options to about 2 colours ahahah
      but yeahh, colour is important.

changed the left door, now it looks like a maccas car..

this is why i had to change the door

anyways, its got a different lock from a later model.. that doesnt fit gotta sort that out..

i find a couple of bad rust spots but should be fixable... when im on holidays

Was the latch bigger or smaller on the red door? Your car must be a swallowtail-hybrid, bits n pieces.
It'd be a good idea to show us pictures of everything. Looks like you've got a smoothie bonnet etc.

There's a few differences that could get in the way when it comes to buying parts.

hey yeah i should probably try get better explaining photos.. pretty much the lock on the red door totally sits on the outside and is like this one

while the original doors had the one which sits on the inside of the door and stick out.. but pretty much it shouldn't be a problem cutting a square in the door once its repainted, and fitting the one of the yellow door. cause yeah the doors are exactly the same, just the car's body is different on the inside of door where the door lock closes.. ill get better pics when im home on the weekend... but im pretty sure it shouldnt be a drama fitting the old lock on the new door.

                  (if all that made sense)

I really like the look of the mk1's without the front bumpers has anyone done this before and left them off ? or is this illegal ?

hey, pretty sure its not illegal.. i don't see why it would be.. i've seen heaps of golfs without bumpers (on photos), it looks good too, the only thing is that you have to work new indicators for the front. whenever i see one without bumpers i check how they went about that problem.. I'm thinking of putting the bumpers back on once its resprayed though.

just cause you saw if in a photo doesn't make it legal!

you'll probably get pulled up for it, since bumpers are there for your safety and were fitted as part of the car originally.
beisdes if you have a prang in a mk 1 without bumpers, you can pretty much kiss your car good bye.

take them off for shows maybe, but i'd never for it on a daily.

                        just my two bob.

at anything above 5kph i don't think bumpers on a mk1 would make any difference in a crash!

bumpers were part of the ADR and have to be on the car for legality. I asked my mate who is a coppper and that is what he said.
I dont have them on my red golf. Looks so much better without em.

and yeah i really wonder how tough they are? they weigh about a kilo or two :/
