  • 76 Golf Retroration

    Hello,

I finally started looking deeper into the recently purchased 76 golf. With uni ending soon now, i'm looking forward to work on it.

There's not much i can tell right now other than I'm planning on keepin it retro, get new flavour (cause i dont really dig mustard), and as much chrome as i can afford/find.

I just started strippin it lookin for rust, im pretty pleased to say she's been well looked after and worth what i paid for it. I'll just be fixing the light rust, sorting out a few holes, and getting it ready for respray.
I really hope to spray the engine bayyyyy, im just scared to take the engine apart and not be able to put it back in

I don't know much about brakes, suspension, engine, or electrics to be honest, just basic things and stuff ive read about but hopefully all that's gonna change now.

Anyways, hope pics work, even though theres nothing too exciting for you to see i guess..

i'll start off with my two (just cause i never got to show them before)

    stripping

    Voilaaaaaa..

And also, if anyone can tell me WT* this **** is, cause it creeps me out and didnt man up to clean it out.. are they some kind of eggs or something? i poked one with a tool and it was real sus.. creeps me out talking bout it

ok ill keep puttin up stuff when i can or when i have questions that hopefully someone can answer..
    Also, any tips appreciated. Thanks!

looks like a good starting base. I love the mustard, keep it!! And dont over-chrome dude, it'll look like cheap tinsel otherwise. Just my 2c.

Those blobs look like some kind of fungus. Eat them, and if you go on an amazing trip you'll know if it's mould or some strange filler stuff heheh.

              Cheers

ahah i like the sound of the amazing trip experiment but i might pass

and by "get as much chrome as i can afford/find." i meant like still keeping it stock & original bits (hopefully) but an example i really like and will prob end up going for is this one

a fair bit of chrome but i dont know if thats counted as "over-chroming" or not but thats how id like it.

and thanks for the mustard love, but yeahh, its not my favourite :S

I think that picture above shows the perfect amount of chroming, not to much but not to little..... just right
I know of a few guys oven on Aussieveedubbers that bought Mustard Superbugs and although they didn't like the colour at first, it grew on them.

I personally like how the mustard colour is so unique and slightly out there, but the choice is up to you.
It'll looks awesome in the end anyway

I seen that cabby parked out front of VW Action day just recently looks nice good luck with the 76 build I hope you have deep pockets for chrome parts, if you are going that way with the car I'm slowly walking this path myself

Chrome flag mirrors are like 3 times the price of black ones from what I've seen.
                          Looks good as is!

Can I have your mudflaps? haha.

skatehurt, lovely car. +1 for the mustard, if you're really wanting to keep it reto.

Mate, I'm also in Brisbane and finishing uni soon. I'm on the hunt for an Mk1 so I can do an engine conversion. We should catch up sometime.

btw, don't over-chrome it. The pic you showed is a well-balanced example. Drop your Mk1 on coilovers, whack on some big dubs, and you'll be good to go.

+1 too for the mustard, i'd love a mustard mk1, very retro.

What colours were you thinking of?
