I'm a bit of a fan of RA23s but only because a mate and I spent a few years building one up in the mid 90s. When it was done (circa 1997) it was the only RA23 I knew of with a 6 cylinder twin turbo where the bonnet would actually shut properly. Won a best engineered award at some Toyota show.

I'd ask for pics of that Rob, but I'll assume it looked very 90's...

Sadly we never really got pics. It was before digital cameras were a decent price and neither of us had internet at the time. Windows 98 wasn't even out if I recall.

It didn't look that bad actually apart from being bright yellow. It was slammed with 16 inch Simmons f90s in gun metal grey. It had a Hilux diff in it which was shortened to be 1 inch shorter than a standard diff so the rear wheels had a huge dish on them (the 11 inch drums didn't look that bad at the time). Front brakes/struts were off an RA65. Otherwise the car looked dead stock. It ran a water/air intercooler so there was no stupidly large intercooler out the front to give anything away. The exhaust was 3" stainless steel but had a black dump pipe so wasn't noticable.

Sadly he wrote it off about 2 months after it was finished due to some idiots pouring oil on a wet road and it slid into another car. The cop that turned up at the accident thought he was being an idiot and speeding until he fell over in the oil when he went to go look at it.
