  • Can't get it to idle properly!

I need some help...again. I thought i would post it in a new thread instead of in my build thread as it would get more attention this way.

Im still having a problem getting the motor to idel properly. It wont sit on anything below 1500rpm and it wont idel smoothly either. It hunts up and down and sounds like it has a big lumpy cam.
I've just put on a new TS passat manifold, 32-36 carbie and gaskets to my 1.9L 8v hoping that would help solve the problem but it didnt. So I re-did the timing and cleand the spark plugs as the previous carbie was over fueling. That helped a bit, it reved smoother and started up better but the idel was unchanged.

An interesting thing is that you can hold the throttle on 1500rpm and it will sit there smoothly but without holding it, it goes all lumpy and starts hunting.

What could be causeing the hunting idel and the lumpy idel and why does it want to shut off below 1500rmp? (If it was mk2 i would know the answer )
Could the fuel pump or fuel filter size have something to do with it?

Im realy out of ideas, any help would be appreciated so i can finaly get this thing back on the road.

things that i found to make idle high was

    Too much advanced timing
    Air leaks
Split hose from brake booster to inlet.
And mixture will do it too.

I will check for leaks but all hoses are new and gaskets are new too.
