  • What fuel do you guys use?

Hey guys, i think i opened a can of worms with my carby thread, gonna open another one

What brand of petrol do you guys use in your cars? I know to chuck in premium 98 as there's no LRP/Super anymore, but what brands give you guys the best results?

I was using Shell VPower, I was told that VPower has a fair bit of ethanol in it? Made the switch to BP Ultimate with flashlube, car feels like it's running a bit smoother. Interested to hear everyone's thoughts on the issue.

Highest octane at whatever servo I happen to be passing when I need fuel.

I stay away from the independents as I've had problems with dodgy blends.

the vpower racing i think it is has ethanol in it, the 100 octane one, the 98 doesnt. I use it and like it.

Standard unleaded will make no difference to your valve seats.

i usually try n get the premo shtuff,
but is that true about shell v-power? i thought thatd be top of the line.
ive used it before, and a lot of others,
cant say it really makes a notable difference whichever fuel i use
                anyway..

I tried all brand's of 98. With K-Jet you can definately tell the difference due to being so sensative & also with the timing alittle advanced.

The most consistant was Mobil Synergy 8000 from a large servo with heaps of traffic. On trips would nearly alway's get an extra 20-50k's out of a tank & performed much more smoothly.
                      Shell was next.

Regular unleaded was a big no no for my engine. Coughed , farted & s$^t itself everytime.

Yea, i have the same problem with the K-jet in the mk2....
doesnt like regular unleaded at all, and i did notice gains ibetween premo and 98RON

                            fuel

V power is 98.6 octane sometimes higher
shell 95 octane is usually 96.5
Shell R is Vpower with 5 % ethanol to give 100 octane
In Sydney Mobil and Caltex are the same fuel
Mobils 98 is 98.0 allways . Its never over
                            There 95 is 95.0
                            There standard is 91
To see the benefits of 98 octane you usually need a high compression engine with EFI as the knock sensor sets the advance. On a standard compression engine there is not a lot of difference.
as far as I know Vpower has the highest energy density as well.
If you need a higher octane than 100 you can mix in toullene ( I think I spelt it right)
