yeh fuse box is brand new.. i've got the stalk off the column and the high / low beam switch feels stuck in high position.. will get it sorted.

thanks for the brake fluid light tip.. dash lights are really a peeve.

wow, that' actually looks pretty snazzy, normally not a huge white walls on a golf fan, but that's pretty neat.

gotta love the old low and slow!

ok so finally got the chance to get down to centre rd wreckers and get a new stalk.. i was in luck as one golf had a stalk in it and a mint steering wheel too btw, got that in and that seems to have confirmed my thoughts of the one in there being faulty as i now have low AND high beam and my squirter works a treat, all be it over the windscreen. also picked up an old FM radio out of an old civic to fill the hole in the dash and give me some company..
                  the old stalk

the burntout switchbox.. this is in the h/l switchbox, inside was the worst of it and it had melted the switch to high!!

and the radio.. will fab up a facia at work over the next week so it sits flush in the dash..

small steps but going off my rwc checklist i think shes ready for first inspection, will do that next week (work permitting)

good work, mint radio too! love period stuff like that.

I had an 80's one from an audi in my old GLD, I never wired it up, (shaved ariel) but it sure looked good!

Ariel should be easy to find! It'll be the thickest blackest most badass wire in that general area.
I knowww, sounds like you had fun. Destroy a Honda, so that one more VW may live.

Soo first Rwc inspection today and thankfully nothing too chronic
                                - brake fluid warning light (fixed now!!)
                                - repair right rear window winder (winder was taped when I bought the car and I was too nervous to check it incase I lost the glass into the door or something silly, but it seems the rear glass guide is clogged and sticky and the drive for the winder is rounded so it looks like this could become a headache)
                                - repair driver side rack boot (shouldn't be a problem to replace just need to get the boot)

All in all i'm pretty happy with it, but after spending most the afternoon trying to fix the window to little avail it's gotten a little frustrating. Bring on tomorrow I guess!!
